A few weekends ago I got the chance to hang around some fashion bloggers in the Dallas Fort Worth area at various events and got some great tips for summer fashion trends and makeup. In the photo below, the store manager, Brady at Banana Republic talked about stylish items that are on trend such as horizontal stripes, wedge sandals, color blocking (purses with a pop of color) and more. Even simple items such as cardigans are a summer necessary go to, just because you may always need one just in case and they add a bit of color to your wardrobe.
Staying Seasonal
One of the key things to remember about selling your fashion finds on eBay is to remember the seasons. Unless it’s a prestige branded item that you found in your closet, that winter jacket you have stocked away may not be a great seller on eBay in the summer. It may sell, but you might not get the price you want for it because winter jackets may not be top of mind to customers (unless you’re like me a complete bargain shopper.)
As an example, I have a Dallas Cowboys winter jacket. I know that it will sell here in Dallas because it’s the Cowboys. However, I don’t plan on putting up for bid on eBay until football season starts and until fall.
As you can see in the photo to the left, if you have any of these items in your closet and if the items look like they can go together then List Them. These are summer items and on trend. You can even use HTML coding and links in your descriptions to your other listed items. In this way, items that match and coordinate may sell just as easily. Even in your photos, if you have a mannequin, drape the matching bag you also have listed next to the blouse and take a photo of it for your listing even if you have them listed individually. The great news is that starting July 2nd, photos are free. That can be up to a 60% discount on fees. As always, mention that you combine shipping. Offering this great feature will prompt buyers to purchase more from you rather than buying from separate sellers and having to pay for extra fees.
I love putting a lot of photos on my listings and I know that buyers like that too. They will click on them and if you are a blogger or website builder, than you’ll understand the significance of photos and images in your listings for SEO purposes.
Makeup
If you happen to have new makeup that you never used, then sell it on eBay. Anything from makeup, skincare, lotions, body sprays and perfumes are great sellers. Just be sure to check the expiration dates since some may have expiration dates and if it’s over a year old, it’s probably best not to list them. The key with makeup is that if it’s sealed and free of bacteria, it can also be a great seller. One of my pet peeves is when a makeup color gets discontinued and I really like it. You can always go onto eBay and you may find it. Same goes for items like Bath and Body Works or Body Shop lines of fragrance sprays and lotions. With makeup this summer, the trend is for bronzers, sunless tanning creams, and blushes in pink or coral. I got to sample makeup brands such as Too Faced and Smashbox with some very popular bronzers. If you have these brands or other brands at home that you haven’t used then list them. Also if you happen to have makeup samplers, you can also list those as well. I tried out Philosophy Here Comes the Sun as a sunless tanner. Receiving rave reviews, this sunless tanner also has age defense ingredients. If you have sunless tanners, this is another hot item to list on eBay.
Staying Functional
Another store that we visited on our blogger shop around was a specialty luggage retailer.
This purveyor of high quality luggage gave packing tips for travel. With high baggage fees, consumers are looking for luggage that they can use as a hand carry or travel tools that make packing easy. In the photo to the right, there are many different travel tools used to pack this carry on bag. Luggage is always a great piece to list on eBay. I listed a roller carry on that I purchased in Switzerland that I didn’t need anymore. I listed it’s functional features such as pockets and of course dimensions. Travelers and especially summer travelers want to know if the carry on luggage they are purchasing is truly a carry on. Even other features such as how the handle comes out and if it swivels are all functions that need to be included in your listing. Now you may not have luggage but you may have packing extras that you could list. Items like 3.5 or 4 ounce plastic containers that can be used for shampoos, lotions etc can also be listed. Also if you have travel bags, cosmetic bags, extra garment bags, and other travel accessories you can list that on eBay as well. With photos, it’s important to capture an image that can show how much you can fit in the bag. The photo to the right actually shows a packed bag that has 6 dress shirts, 4 pants, one jacket. That kind of functional descriptions give a buyer an easy idea of how much can fit into a hand carry or other type of luggage.
You’re Not Alone
One of the great things I love about eBay is that you are not alone. You don’t have to fend for yourself while you figure out how to sell your items. They offer many tools such as the mobile phone app that is available on iTunes and the Android app available on Google Play. They have message boards and help for you all the time. Even with their seller applications and rules, they use best practices to protect you as a seller and a buyer. You will not get that on Craig’s List.
One of my favorite sections are the eBay Fashion’s “Selling with the Chick Squad!” They have a series of videos that offer tips for selling your fashion hangovers. In the video I embedded below, Brad Goreski, Celebrity stylist offers tips on how to start selling your fashion finds.
