Years ago I traveled through Belgium on my way to Hungary and happened to stop for a bite at a square called the Grand Sablon. Like most European squares the Grand Sablon is a treasure trove of shops and kitschy tourist shops that also include a variety of pastry shops and Belgian chocolatiers (some famous and some you may not have heard of). It really is an experience to try high quality chocolates and Sablon Chocolate Lounge in Dallas prides itself on that with their sweet confections and hot chocolates. On this occasion I opted to try their new lunch menu starting at $9.95 with a friend last month featuring mouth-watering paninis.
Making an Entrance
A close walk to the West Village and a great place to hang out for a bite after a movie at Magnolia Theatre finding a place to park was very easy for me at lunch with ample street parking and parking lots available. Nestled right on the corner of Blackburn St and McKinney Ave in a space once occupied by a yogurt shop, you can’t miss its large windows. As I met friends for lunch we commented on how extraordinary the people watching was from the vantage point of Sablon Chocolate Lounge. I had a thought in my head of working here with my laptop away from the crowds at Star- (espresso shop that must not be name) and taking a glance or two at the beautiful Dallas people outside. In the words for the Big Bad Wolf (or Cougar) “The better to SEE you with.” Anyway I digress because once inside from the cold, the warmth and the smells all captivate the senses and it’s only natural to try a chocolate covered strawberry or admire all the chocolate delights inside. The lounge is a real lounge with comfortable furniture for ideal conversation where you can lean in to tell your girlfriends about a sweet delight at the counter or outside (Get what I mean?)
The Lunch Menu
As I stated earlier starting at $9.95 you are treated to a variety of lunch delights that gives a whole new meaning to “working lunch” if you happen to bring your electronic devices. Grab a Tomato and Mozzarella panini like I did and maybe a flavored iced tea or espresso. Then sit down and record all of your receipts and expenses in solitude (The friend I met there was doing that) or write your next novel OR better yet update your dating profile on Match.com. The ingredients are fresh and the chips are delightful and the sandwiches came with a pickle of course. If you are looking for gut busting sandwiches you won’t find that here but you will get high quality and flavorful ingredients in a nice setting perfect for that working lunch or lunch date.
Here’s what you get with your combo:
Cookie (They are huge I tell you – HUGE!!!)
And a drink
All for $9.95
Grab lunch and try it for yourself.
