Traveling with Children: DFW Airport amenities for holiday travel

I’m starting a new segment about traveling with small children. Being my first post about travel I’m very intrigued about what Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) International Airport has to offer parents traveling with children.

I read a news alert today about some of the things that DFW airport is doing during the holidays. As you know with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up, many will be traveling via airplane. Last year DFW airport had about 4.5 million people travel through there in November and about 4.7 million people travel in December. DFW Airport is the 3rd largest airport in the United States and the 8th largest in the world and about 59% of the traffic are from passengers connecting to other cities. There’s a good chance you and your family could be one of them.

So to make the holidays easier on parents traveling with children, I explored some of the things that this airport has for the connected family traveler.

Children’s Play Areas

DFW International Airport has 5 different play areas scattered throughout terminals B, C, D and E. As of this writing, they are located at:

Gates: B12 and C14 as part of the Pepsi Junior Flyers Club
Gates: D33 – McDonald’s Play Area
Gates: D10 and E21 – Smaller children’s play area

Suitable for ages 2 through 5.

If you are an American Airlines Admirals Club member, there is also a children’s lounge in the Admirals Lounge in Terminal A.

InMotion Entertainment

Another one of my favorite places if you have an unexpected delay is renting DVD’s or a portable DVD player. In Motion Entertainment is located at: Terminal D, Gates D10 and D31 and Terminal E, Gate E16. The return process is simple and easy!

Parking Maps and Valet Parking

If you are traveling out of DFW Airport during the holidays, parking garages fill up fast.

Be sure to check their website for the most up-to-date parking availabilityinformation.  An interactive map on the Parking Guide of the Airport’s web site displays the location and parking rates for all lots at DFW Airport.
Consider making an online reservation and take advantage of DFW Airport Valet Parking!  If you are juggling children, luggage, and bags it would be nice to come back and get everything loaded in the car quickly and be on your way back home.

Microsoft Tag Reader to find great deals!

They’re Microsoft Tags2D barcodes that connect people with information, entertainment, and interactive experiences
in the digital world.

They are also located throughout DFW airport.   Keep your eyes peeled for present shaped tags inside the parking garages and the terminals. If you spot one, simply download the free Microsoft Tag application on your Smartphone at and scan the present. You’ll gain instant access to great deals and discounts inside the terminals.  Great for finding food deals to occupy the kids.

Check-in to your flight and Check-in to great deals via Facebook and Foursquare

Looking to grab a bite between flights? Want to pick up a souvenir before heading back home? Or thinking of treating yourself to a relaxing treatment at the spa? Either way, you’ll find exciting offers on foursquare or Facebook Places that were designed to make your experience at DFW a little bit sweeter.
