The local radio station just asked on Facebook about whether they should start playing Christmas music. Answers ranged from wait till Black Friday or wait till Thanksgiving. I’m going to share with you a little secret . . . . . I’ve already been playing Christmas music in my car, at home and even when I am at work. Nothing puts me in such a good mood as the holiday season. The only thing that can ruin it is all the bills, debt and expenses that come along with it. This is why I love starting early and being prepared so I can save money. Saving money always puts me in a good mood and Coinstar® helps you get extra cash for the holiday season.
There are a few things that I do to help me get started early on my Christmas shopping and holiday gift giving without breaking the bank. I also include the entire family. When we do a winter cleaning of the house we find and collect all of our old coins, change as well as unused or unwanted gift cards. These things accumulate throughout the year in car ashtrays, couch cushions, glass jars, piggy banks and more. Taking stock and inventory of our loose change and old gift cards means one thing to us: Taking them to Coinstar and Coinstar™ Exchange for cash.
Coinstar and Coinstar Exchange at a store near you
You may have seen the green Coinstar kiosks or the yellow Coinstar Exchange kiosks before but may not know what they are for. Here in Texas I have seen these kiosks at the Wal-mart Returns and Customer Service Area. At places like Kroger, I have seen them nestled between other self-service machines and where you pick up the carpet cleaners. Feel free to scream with delight at the instant cash by exchanging coins at the Coinstar kiosk for cash– Congratulations because you can use that cash for Holiday Turkey, a new toy or a special present for someone. With Coinstar, you can also opt for no fee e-gift cards to Amazon, Toys R Us, Home Depot and more. You could even donate the coins to charity. Meanwhile the bright yellow Coinstar Exchange kiosks offer up instant cash for unwanted gift cards and they accept more than 150 different retailer gift cards. You can find a location of both a Coinstar and Coinstar Exchange kiosk near you at coinstar.com/kioskfinder
My Experience with Coinstar and Coinstar Exchange
I have used these machines in the past and trust me it is so easy. Bring in your jar of coins and dump them into the green Coinstar machine kiosk dispenser. For exchanging gift cards at the yellow Coinstar Exchange machines, I could just scan the label on the gift card or insert it into the machine for the kiosk to read it, it was that simple. After you scan or swipe your gift card it gives you an offer. After you accept it, you verify your identity via a driver’s license or state issued ID. Then you insert the gift card into the machine and then print and redeem your voucher. It really works like the Coinstar coin cashing kiosks because the store’s customer service desk can give you cash for your voucher. If you like the offer take it, if not you can always decline it. The main thing is that sometimes you receive gift cards from stores you don’t frequent or the cash is more of an urgent need so you get the cash you need at that moment. Others have asked me what the exchange rate is at Coinstar Exchange and those amounts vary. For my experience I got 70 to 75 cents on the dollar. If you receive gift cards this Christmas that you don’t want, it’s wonderful to have somewhere to exchange them for cash.
