In case you didn’t know it, singing is my thing. My family and especially my dad come from a long line of musicians in the family. I have a cousin that is a professional entertainer. When I was younger I used to play music and dance hula back home in Hawaii and here in Texas. Music is our lifeblood and one of my favorite activities is to sing karaoke in a cool jukebox joint.
At the foot of my bed lies a guitar that I planned on learning to play one day. I know I could pick it up fast but with the hustle and bustle of single motherhood, I haven’t had a chance to learn. I took it out of the case so that I could make sure I would learn but still haven’t learned. My daughter keeps plucking each string and I can tell that small sparkle in her eye she is just captivated by that guitar. So that is my inspiration and sort of my motivation.
Whether it’s a new hobby like music or coming up with new ways to spend quality time with your loved ones, we can all be inspired. My children inspire me so much that I will pick up guitar and play. When we are running errands we are always singing songs and that’s what happened this past weekend on our way to Brookshire’s.
On the way to the Brookshire’s down in Red Oak, TX we happened along the aisles of our favorite Coca-Cola™ products and came upon these special Share a Coke and a Song specially marked bottles. With all of your favorite song lyrics, they are available at your local Brookshire’s so you can experience even greater savings by using Brookshire’s YourPoints. You can also save on gas as much as 10 cents per gallon on fuel and 5% off on groceries when you use them so don’t hesitate to stack up on the savings when you get your favorite Coca- Cola products.
As we perused the aisle and started checking out all the bottles and cans for our favorite songs I started to come up with a mental playlist in my mind of my favorite songs. My daughters were busy singing and doing dance routines in the aisles. I started thinking about my favorite music download app and I can’t help but share that all you have to do is download the Shazam App, available on iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, Android and other devices to get your very own Coca-Cola Share a Song. It’s easy and you can rock out when you do your grocery shopping next time – with earbuds of course.
I started showing Dallas Single Dad the bottles and he couldn’t figure out the songs that went with the lyrics. I couldn’t believe it. I started singing songs like Etta James, “At Last” and so much others. This was when I went into game mode and thought it would be fun to have a game both of our families could enjoy together. I thought this was a great way to get all of our kids to bond as we hung out this past weekend– using the “Share a Coke and a Song” bottles and cans. I had all of our kids put down the video games and I came up with this fun game:
Guessing Game: Guess the song from “Share a Coke and a Song”
This game is based on the popular game Heads Up. Instead of cards we are using Coca-Cola bottles or cans. Materials:
- Specially Marked “Share a Coke and a Song” bottles and cans
- 6 Pack Glass Bottles
- Mini Cans
- 5 oz. Aluminum Bottles
- 20 oz. Plastic Bottles
- A basket or the original packaging given to each player
- Printouts for song lyrics – just in case you don’t remember
You can create teams. One person chooses a bottle or can (without looking) and places it on their head. The rest of their team mates have to provide clues to the player without saying the exact lyric on the bottle or can. Tally up the wins and the team with the most wins or Coca-Cola is the winner. I mean we are all winners if we have the most Coca-Cola right. It is such an easy game and I had so much fun singing the songs.
This was so much fun for the kids to play and my little ones could really practice their reading. It was good to see our children bond and it was such an easy game to play without a lot of pieces or objects to put together. It definitely made a rainy Sunday very fun.
What are some of your favorite songs on your playlist?
