Our friends at @nerdvana.coffee+shop invited us to try out their coffees and breakfast complimentary.
He had me at Cold Brew. . . . I could tell as he called out my name to hand me my cup that things were going to be different this time. It’s not like this was his first time. Yet I was still nervous . . . . still hoping that I wasn’t wasting my time . . . again. I don’t think I could stand staring down another coffee cup full of bitter coffee grounds mixed in with shear disappointment. If this didn’t work out, I was going to be done this time. DONE! Ok – maybe I would just take a break from this scene until after Valentine’s Day. So the pressure of the whole coffee date wouldn’t be as immense.
I was trying to pretend that I wasn’t nervous when I saw him appear at the coffee counter but I was really a novice. I was a pro at coffee but this was a new place and it was New Year’s eve. That whole New Year, New Me cliche’ – I thought if I just download the special Coffee Ripples app everything would be fine. Then I found “The One.”
“Nerdvana.Coffee+Shop” – interesting name so far and different. Different from all the rest. Located in Frisco, TX in the Frisco Square. Thank goodness because I have a 20 mile radius limit when I go anywhere from my apartment so this coffee date wouldn’t be too far at all. I saw the photos online but in person – WOW! Much bigger in real life. I just wanted to be enveloped in the warmth of it all day long. We laughed a little and I was intrigued by the array of locally-roasted coffee, scratch-made breakfast items and the homage put forth to pop culture games and icons of my youth.
He yelled out my name and it was love at first sight when I saw what would the most delicious hunk of heaven to grace my eyes. Texas Toast bigger than my hand piled high with cinnamon and sugar. I teased and begged for a little more. Then he topped it off with almond butter and honey. The stickiness dripped from the corner of my lips and I covered my mouth. Yes this is a new year, a different me but a better me with Nerdvana.coffee_shop.
Offering me more than just coffee, toast and board games. Opening my eyes to the possibilities of sandwiches, salads and snacks in case I want to eat in and play some board games or take it home or to the office. The coffee shop I fell head over heels over that is so much more. Dazzling me with it’s decor and library of 100+ board games serving up all of my beverage desires from local roasters as well as housemade juices, loose tea, drinking chocolates, pastries – and the all too familiar artisanal Texas toast.
This will no longer be just a great coffee first date place. A casual lunch date or a quick dinner catch up with friends will offer me fresh panini sandwiches including: Ham and Swiss on Sourdough; Grilled Chicken Provolone, and Red Pepper Relish on Multigrain; Prime Rib, Cheddar and Horseradish Aioli on Sourdough; Grilled Veggie, Provolone and Pesto on Multigrain; and Grilled Cheese. Not overly pretentios with a price of $3.95 to $9.95 each.
For the rest of the menu enjoy:
Salads such as a Mediterranean Salad ($7.95), Chicken Jalapeno Salad ($9.95) and Chicken Tortilla Salad ($9.95).
Grab-n-Go Snacks are offered in five variations with items including hummus, crackers, fruit, cheese and more and range from $2.95 to $7.95. Additionally, oatmeal cups come in four different flavors and are $3.75 each.
Executive Chef Mike Junio brings his fine-dining culinary skills from San Francisco to the coffee shop and next door to @nerdvana.food+spirits, the latest concept by Chef Junio and his sister and store owner, Kristy Pitchford.
