My daughter just turned 5 and we are excited to be doing some mother and daughter bonding via manicures and pedicures. For our spring portraits, my daughter opted for an aqua teal color called Hypnotize for her fingers and a pretty pink pocketful of posies for her feet. I also tried it first, taking the polish to a salon in order to try it there first before putting it on my children. My younger daughter also loves Piggy Paint and she is two. Both of them love showing off their nails and so I was glad to see a safe, pretty and non toxic option for my girls.
New for 2012 are 4 glittery, glamorous and natural nail color for girls
Piggy Paint has so many wonderful benefits it will give you peace of mind for your child’s delicate skin and nails:
1. Water Based
4. Eco-friendly alternative
5. Many wonderful colors
Personally I really like them and recommend this product. I do have a few additional insights though.
1. Make sure you use the Piggy Paint brand of base coat and top coat. I went to the salon and forgot the base coat and top coat. The nail salon tried to use their solvent based products which made the piggy paint bubble and it took longer to dry. So my recommendation is to always use like products.
2. This product takes longer to dry so anticipate that and keep the kids distracted long enough to wait for it to dry.
Safe for young fingers and toes, Piggy Paint lets little princesses indulge in color without the chemicals or all the associated fumes. Now, kids have four more colorful ways to express their style:
Pocketful of Posies puts a pop of punchy, matte pink on the most posh of toes-ies.
Glamour Girl is a fashion forward, party-perfect fuchsia flecked with silver glitter.
Hypnotize is a deep, electric teal that shimmers like a sun-dappled sea.
Glitterbug – a clear polish shot through with multi-colored sparkle – can work alone or as a special effects topcoat to other Piggy Paint colors. Glitterbug looks spectacular over Fairy Fabulous, or as the “sprinkles” on top of Ice Cream Dream. The polishes retail for $8.99.
Piggy Paint is the brainchild of Melanie Hurley, a mom of two “fancy girls” who love having their nails painted. Hurley had always hated the thought of her kids putting fingers adorned with traditional kid polishes in their mouths. Not only did the ingestion of chemicals worry her, but also the smell nearly left her light-headed each time she painted two sets of fingernails and toenails. “One day, my daughter dropped a glob of her solvent-based polish onto the foam plate we were working over,” recalls Hurley. “Shortly after, the paint had ‘eaten’ through the plate. From that day on, I decided that any flammable substance that could cause foam to disintegrate was unacceptable for children’s fingernails.”
The quest was on, and Piggy Paint was born. The resulting polishes are proudly made in the U.S.A. with natural ingredients. They are non-flammable and contain no formaldehyde, toluene, phthalates, biphenyl A, ethyl acetate or acetone. And because they are hypoallergenic, everyone can enjoy them.
Piggy Paint polishes dry to a hard and durable finish. For added chip resistance, it is recommended that freshly painted nails be allowed to air dry for one minute, followed by one minute of blow drying on a low heat setting (always under adult supervision).
Piggy Paint is also safe for use during pregnancy, and in fact, offers the perfect polish solution for anyone who prefers a more natural and planet-friendly approach to nail care. In addition to the classic Piggy Paint collection, the company also offers the “Refined” collection comprised of a grown-up palette of neutral and rich shades. Students at selected colleges can support their favorite teams with Piggy Paint’s “Spirit” Collection. Planet-conscious tweens and teens will appreciate the “Earth” collection of neon shades, and pooches can even sport Puppy Paint, a non-toxic line of anti-lick lacquer that lets them look as polished as their human best friends.
Piggy Paint products are available at select Wal-mart stores, Walmart.com, Bed Bath and Beyond and specialty boutiques across the country. For more information, to locate a retailer near you, or to purchase online, please visit www.piggypaint.com.
