A few weeks ago myself and a few friends descended upon the Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe in Las Colinas (Irving, TX). When I was in my younger twenties, Razzoo’s was a favorite to down some happy hour beverages, especially that ginormous fishbowl of gator punch. I can recall the drink but no the date I was with – oh well that was way too long ago. Anyway, I haven’t been to Razzoo’s in a while so I thought this was a great way to get reacquainted again and try my hand at making some of their Peach and Pecan Bread Pudding.
If you are still trying to figure out what Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner is going to look like then you know you have a daunting task ahead of you. Not just the turkey but also thesides. Then once you get the turkey, how many people are coming over? How big of a turkey are you going to get? Are you going to brine it? Id your roasting pan big enough? What about smoking it? I have tried turkey every which way and I have known people that deep fried their turkey only to find out it wasn’t cooked all the way through – (More Gator Punch please). Razzoo’s has a tip line for Deep Frying Turkeys but take the hassle out of Thanksgiving dinner by ordering a 15 lb cajun deep fried turkey from Razzoo’s. I tried it and it’s amazing. They rub all of their zydeco spices on the bird and it does have some kick to it but the meat inside is so tender. Steve and I agreed to do it that way this year and I highly recommend you do the same thing.
When we went to Razzoo’s to learn how to make their special bread pudding we got to eat their Thanksgiving dinner. It included a lot of cajun fried turkey ($64.95) but also some side dishes. The side dishes come by the pint for $4.99 or by the quart for $7.99. You get your choice of smokey red beans, dirty rice, mashed potatoes, cajun cream gravy and green beans. I really like the mashed potatoes with the cajun cream gravy. I think the cream gravy is a better alternative to turkey gravy and I highly recommend that side dish. You can also order their Bread Pudding with a full pan feeding 12 to 15 people for just $34.95 and a half pan feeding 6 to 8 people for just $19.95.
The kids had a lot of fun making the special bread pudding. We had to let it sit overnight but it was a treat to get our very own peach and pecan bread pudding.
Here’s the recipe if you want to try making your own. With a mixture of peaches, pecans and condensed milk with cinnamon it is great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The sauce is a mixture of rum, butter, brown sugar, and condensed milk.Razzoo's Peach and Pecan Bread Pudding Recipe
