I posted this to my Facebook Page. If you are a mom with children ages 2- 11. Please take a look.
I’m fortunate enough to work for a company that gives their employees free flu shots. If you work for an organization that gives out free flu shots then take advantage of that. Walgreens did a study about the flu and the following survey results were:
The flu impacts employees and last year alone employees lost more than $8.5 billion dollars in lost wages. Nearly two-thirds of those surveyed (60 percent) say they will take extra precautions to avoid the flu this year, including washing hands more frequently (87 percent), getting a flu shot earlier (51 percent), getting flu shots for family members (49 percent), limiting time in public places (43 percent) and trying working from home more often (11 percent).
On the photo to the left actress Amanda Peet is getting her flu shot at Walgreen’s. She is the Ambassador to the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life Program.
Amanda spoke about the importance of providing life-saving vaccinations to children in need across the globe. According to Shot@Life and the UN Foundation:

Ah, the many responsibilities of parenting: making sure your kids eat right, sleep right, play right …and brush their teeth! Getting children to brush their teeth is recognized as a common challenge for parents around the globe. How do you inspire a child to stand still and brush for the recommended two minutes? While it can be tempting to cave in and allow your child to get by with a mere twenty or thirty seconds of half-hearted brushing (punctuated by fidgeting or fussing), do not despair. There are many ways to make brushing not only tolerable but also fun for the little ones. If your child could chat with the Tooth Fairy about dental care, the conversation might go something like this.
6-year-old Chloe: Hi, Tooth Fairy! Why do I need to brush my teeth? It’s not very fun!
Tooth Fairy: Hi, Chloe. Brushing your teeth is really important. You know when you chew something tough, like a piece of meat, or something really hard, like a piece of candy, how your teeth are always harder than what you’re chewing? Well, if you don’t brush your teeth, someday they won’t be so hard anymore. They can even crack and break or get soft and change colors on the inside! You have to keep brushing your teeth every day to make sure they stay clean and hard so that you can chew your food.
Chloe: Wow! I don’t want broken or colored teeth. But…I still wish brushing wasn’t so boring. Can we make it fun?
TF: You bet! What kind of toothbrush do you use, Chloe?
Chloe: I dunno. It’s blue. I don’t like it.
TF: If you don’t like it, how about a Barbie toothbrush? It even spins on its own and does most of the hard work for you.
Chloe: Oooh! Pink is my favorite. But…I don’t think my brother would like that one. He doesn’t like pink.
TF: Chloe, do you like the way your toothpaste tastes?
Chloe: Ewww, no. I hate peppermint.
Chloe: Watermelon, please!
TF: Okay! And while we’re at it, let’s play some tooth-brushing games. Does your mom have a smartphone or an iPad?
Chloe: Yes, she does.
TF: Great! Let’s look at some apps that can help make brushing your teeth a little more exciting for you.
Macleans Nurdle Durdles
This app, Nurdle Time, features Milky, Lilly, and Billy, three characters who help to make brushing more interesting for curious, playful kids. The characters play a song and time the child for two minutes as he brushes his teeth. Every time a child completes the two-minute brushing time, he or she is awarded “Nurdle Stars” – points that can be used in a virtual store to create a Nurdle character for the child.
Available for Apple devices, this app is great for younger kids. It features a timer and progress bar, an amusing brushing sound, and various funny faces to keep kids engaged. A toothbrush icon shows the child which areas to brush.
Brush with Jackson
Originating in Scotland, the Brush with Jackson app gives kids a lovable tooth-brushing companion. Jackson not only helps children to brush their teeth for the required time, but he also playfully interacts with them; repeating things the child says, giggling and squealing when tickled or poked in the tummy, winking his eye, and twitching his nose. Tooth brushing becomes lots more fun with a brushing buddy!

I can admit that I was definitely skeptical at first. I have three children and so I can admit that getting my oldest to eat healthy is a challenge. When she started pre-school it became even harder because she would generally follow what the other kids ate.
I received a free copy of Copy-Kids to view and try out in exchange for this product review and I can say that I was overwhelmingly surprised. It’s such a simple video, yet it has such amazing results.
Combating Childhood Obesity
Getting your kids on a well-balanced diet with a good amount of fruits and vegetables is essential to winning the battle against childhood obesity. From books like Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right: The Food Solution That Lets Kids Be Kids and first lady, Michelle Obama’s initiative to get people eating healthier with the choose my plate initiative we need to do everything we can to help fight childhood obesity. I believe Copy-Kids does a tremendous service to us all by helping with that initiative.
What is Copy-Kids?
Copy-Kids is a media company producing video that encourages positive habits in young children, by watching and copying other kids. Copy-Kids unique content — DVD, online and TV — helps parents get their children hooked on healthy and positive habits.
Produced for children aged 6 months to 5 years, Copy-Kids innovative video is fun and compelling for both children and parents. Check out the video below from Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables.
What I liked about it?
It had a lot of different categories of fruits and vegetables to choose from. It made interacting with the kids fun because they could choose the fruit from the menu screen. I think have a diverse number of children by age and by race helps kids to identify even more with the kids in the video. My 2 year old and 4 year old loved the video, however I think it made the most impact to my 2 year old. She is now eating more vegetables that I didn’t think she would eat. It also taught me a lesson in looking at other options for vegetables and fruits to try with the children especially bell peppers and avocados.
What the kids liked about it?
My 4 year old loves watching this video. There are a lot of colors and seeing the live kids is helpful. My two year old can’t take her eyes off this video either and since she is learning to talk, she will mimic the kids as well if some of them talk.
What the DVD Includes?
Copy-Kids launched in January 2012 with Copy-Kids Eat Fruits and Vegetables.
The DVD features twelve 7 minute chapters, one for each of twelve fruits & veggies:
Apples – Avocado – Banana – Bell Pepper – Blueberries – Broccoli – Carrots – Cucumber – Orange – Raspberries – Strawberries – Tomato
Each chapter features children ranging from 9 months to 5 years old. It’s a simple but revolutionary tool for parents who want their kids to develop a life-long habit of healthy eating. The DVD includes an on-camera discussion about healthy eating with renowned pediatrician Dr. Jay Gordon, plus a section of delightful outtakes.
My recommendation: It works! 5 out of 5 stars! It might be a bit more challenging for your older children ages 4 and above because they are a bit more independent and may have other influences such as school, friends, etc that can influence their eating behaviors. My child also goes to her dad’s home every other weekend and let’s just say he’s not as strict on ensuring healthy eating as I am. However, it did well for my 2 year old and I think that would be the best age to start this kind of program.
