Dear Dallas Single Mom:
Why do so many single mothers go on dating sites and when you ask them out, they say I have kids so I just stay home with them. Even if you try to plan it in advance. Why the hell are they even on the site then?
– Captain Oblivious
Everyone say Hi again to Captain Oblivious. Captain Oblivious makes a good point and I have seen many single mothers go on dating sites to then not actually go on dates. There are many reasons for this but the biggest one is Fear. Fear of the unknown and an equal fear of being alone is the reason why single mothers go on dating sites but then get overwhelmed by so many different types of men that they want to make sure they are putting their investment in the right potential date. Look at it this way, babysitters are expensive and making the decision between groceries and a babysitter might be the reason that many single mothers are not going out on dates because they want to make sure it is the right potential match before making the big “appearance.” Men can be very obscure on dating sites and many times both sexes are holding their cards close to their chest not truly revealing their true selves out of fear what the other person might think of them, say etc. I know for many single moms many of them have the kids full time and it may actually be emotionally overwhelming going through the process of meeting someone. Online dating is daunting and exhausting at times and far too often we meet a lot of low hanging fruit. If it bothers you so much, consider springing for half or all of the babysitting fee – especially if it’s a single mom you really want to get to know. Or take it as a hint and maybe she’s just not that into you.
