Though many people, including myself, enjoy online shopping, we often hit some bumps like ordering the wrong size or discovering the product is not all we wanted it to be. Shopping in stores versus online are two completely different experiences, and the company Oak Labs has blended the two for the best shopping experience yet.
Oak Labs has teamed up with Polo Ralph Lauren, including the NorthPark Center location in Dallas, to introduce interactive fitting rooms.Oak Labs’ technology enhancement has defined shopping to many consumers, making for a practical and fun experience when it comes to trying out new clothes at stores. They’ve done this by building a touch-screen mirror to replace a standard mirror in the fitting room. This mirror syncs with the store’s existing inventory and point of sale systems, offering an immersive brand experience at the consumer’s fingertips.
Oak Labs provides a personal and interactive experience via this technology. Here’s how it works:
- Items are detected. Items brought into the fitting room are detected via RFID reading technology, prompting an item count to be immediately shown on the touch-screen mirror. Shoppers can view unique item details, request alternate colors or sizes, view stylist recommendations or request help from an associate for a more engaging person-to-person experience.
- Choose your light. Lighting themes customized to fit RL’s brand aesthetic – “Fifth Avenue Daylight,” “East Hampton Sunset” and “Evening at the Polo Bar” – offer an easy first touch point for the consumer.
- Choose your language. In keeping with the company’s global mindset, shoppers can translate the experience and communications with sales associates into their native language. Localization is available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese and Italian.
- Make a request. Need a different size or color of your item? All requests made by the customer are immediately delivered to a retail associate via iPad. Sales associates can respond to a shopper’s request with a friendly note that appears on the fitting room mirror (e.g. “I’ll be right there”) alongside their name and photo. Through streamlined communication, sales associates can ease the transition from the fitting room to checkout with mobile point of sale systems all while re-humanizing the experience.
- Make a purchase. Interested shoppers can send a summary of the items in the fitting room to their phone by sending a text message with a web-link and notify an associate when they are ready to checkout.
Expect to see this technology in other stores in the near future. Cheers to a new elevated way of shopping and making our lives easier when at the malls!

Valentine’s Day for most single mothers can seem like an overbearing holiday filled with red roses, chocolate hearts and greeting cards. If you are dating someone it can be riddled with anxiety on whether or not you will celebrate the holiday or not. You may also wonder what to get as a gift for that special someone or you may not be dating anyone at all and feel like you are missing out on something. I have had the pleasure of celebrating this holiday alone for approximately 8 years. I consider the month and a half after the new year to be a great time to assess my progress on some goals I formed at New Year’s. I also consider it a great way to right the course if I went off track and to see how far I’ve come in paying off my Christmas debts. I have bought myself fantastic Valentine’s Day gifts from handbags, shoes, jewelry, books, dinners, spa treatments and a host of other delights that only exemplify what this holiday is about for me- love. When the kids came along, Valentine’s Day became even more special as the kids and I sat together to make Valentine’s Day cards for the kids at school or to put together treat bags. They would make cards for their grandparents and it was such a treat to take part in the fabulous Valentine’s Day activities going on all around us.
The Big Deal about Valentine’s Day
Shopping on Valentine’s Day for yourself if you are not dating someone is a great confidence booster. You get exactly what you want and if it’s extra special you saved up for it and so what you buy is a benchmark on achieving that goal. Maybe you wanted to lose a certain number of pounds by Valentine’s Day or you want to pay down a debt by Valentine’s Day. Treating yourself for an accomplishment you achieved is a great way to celebrate Valentines’ Day. It’s not too late, you can accomplish something in the next two weeks and then reward yourself. Choose what you want to do – you can volunteer at a charity, sign up for a walk, or give away old clothes and shoes you no longer need and then replace it with a reward.
Single Ladies – Reward Yourself!
You don’t have to break the bank to reward yourself on Valentine’s Day. If you want to feel better about Valentine’s Day, consider this to be a great way to evaluate yourself. Are you the best YOU that you want to bring into another person’s life? Evaluate your goals, your achievements and how much you have grown from the year before. Settle any disputes and find your center, then if you feel you have accomplished a lot – reward yourself.
I got the opportunity write a blog post about my experience at promotionalcodes.com. This site is a handy shopping site providing promotional codes and available discounts to many of your favorite retailers such as: Macy’s, FTD.com and Kay Jewelers. You just click on the deal to go to the site and use the code. They also have a very handy app if you shop on the go with the free PromotionalCodes.com App for iPhone or Android
How did I reward myself?
At the beginning of January I had set a small goal for myself. A few small goals. One of them was to lose ten pounds which I did accomplish and the other was to get a promotion at work. I did get a raise and no word yet on the promotion so I’m still crossing my fingers. These deserve some rewards and so I decided to get something very special for Valentine’s Day.
I decided to choose a piece of jewelry or a statement piece. I don’t often wear necklaces so I wanted something very special. I opted for a promotional code at Last Call by Neiman Marcus.
There was something that I had on my mind that I really wanted from this retailer. Neiman Marcus is a high end retailer and their Last Call outlet is a great way to get bargains on some great gifts. I ended up purchasing an R.J. Graziano scrollwork and multi-crystal bib necklace. Absolutely stunning and I adore it. With the promo code I had used at the time from PromotionalCodes.com I got it for $99.00 which is over a 50% discount off the regular retail price of $225.00.
The piece is gorgeous and I love using the site to look for a dress or other accessories to match. I currently do not have a date for Valentine’s Day but at least I will have something to wear. My motto is “never say never.” LOL!
I even posted about this on Instagram when I received it and got a lot of admiring looks and likes on it.
Now it’s your turn. If you are dating or coupled up, is there something special you want to buy for Valentine’s Day? If you aren’t dating, is there a goal that you would like to reward yourself for if you accomplish it? Let me know in the comments.
