Which vehicles are popular with single moms? There is not one single answer because there is no one type of single mom out there. Just as there are many types of single mothers in many different generations and stages of life there is also a vehicle that fits those particular needs. There are many new 2017 vehicles with some amazing design, technical and safety features that can fit a single mom’s budget, comfort and style. When I interviewed many single moms in my DFW Single Parent’s Facebook group there were many vehicle features mentioned and much of it was based upon the age of their children. In fact some of the single moms I know are in the market to purchasing a vehicle for their teenagers or young adult drivers so some of the features that stood out were fuel economy, reliability, low maintenance costs, interior technology features and style.
Single Moms and the car buying process
The DFW Auto Show that happens every third week of March is not just for dads and car guys anymore. Moms and specifically women are gaining ground in consumer buying behavior in the auto market. It is why auto shows and sites like SheBuysCars.com is such an important resource for women buying cars. The buying behavior of single moms don’t differ much from their married counterparts. The only difference that comes into play would be who single moms take along with them when they are purchasing a car (Hint: it’s usually not a guy). Single moms also have to factor in the amount of household income and purchasing power they have. The Internet has made car buying research easier and in my own experience when I purchased my car a few years back I already had financing down (credit union), narrowed down my choices to three vehicle picks and walked into the dealership knowing exactly what I want. There was not much the sales person needed to do except sell me on a nice warranty package. Whether you attend an auto show or shop online being able to ask questions and getting to know the makes and models you like – – and those you don’t like – – can make the car buying process that much easier. Even if you are not in the market to purchase a new vehicle, getting information about which manufacturers are at the forefront with new car technology means you can determine which brand you want to stick with and grow as new models come out into the market.
Mazda – Driving Matters for Single Moms
If there ever was a car brand that needs to be on any top car buying list for single moms, Mazda should be on that list. For every generational single mom type out there, there is a Mazda that that can help you make Driving Matter. Their tag line is Driving Matters and what I interpret that to mean is that they have placed a major emphasis on how we single moms drive. Based upon each generational single mom – whether it’s a Millennial, Gen X or Baby Boomer single mom; there is a Mazda that fits each generational style single mom. In the US, over half of all kids are being raised by a single parent with single mothers making up the majority of those households. Single moms make most of their buying decisions with their children in tow and children of single mothers have more influence in the purchasing decisions of single moms – including cars.
The Generation X Reinvented Single Mom – Mazda CX-9
I consider myself to be the “reinvented single mom.” I came up with that label myself. The reinvented mom is typically Generation X, over the age of 35, Divorced or Remarried, $55,000 plus income with older children. The reinvented mom has a college degree and has been at her workplace for about ten years. She juggles it all from multi-tasking meetings, volunteering to driving kids to practice her vehicle is her second home. She is in the midst of reinventing herself as her children get older either with a new dating life, new hobby, new friends, new career. It’s not a new mom it’s the upgrade or the 2.0 version. The reinvention of the family SUV is what the Mazda CX-9 captures for the reinvented single mom. Like her the Mazda CX-9 has upgraded the driving experience appearing efficient, stylish and confident as the “reinvented single mom” while also getting the necessary work done without worry. Among their line of SUVs, the unassuming CX-3 and CX-5 also offer the predictive I-Activ AWD (All Wheel Drive) system. You can learn more about the recent 2016 model from SheBuysCars.com calling it the Fashionable Family Car.
The Millennial Single Momanista – Mazda 3 – 5 door Hatchback
These single moms are at an advantage and they want to have it all. Growing up in a single parent household is the norm and many of these single moms either themselves grew up in a single parent home or know someone who did. They have their own money and many choose to be a single mom or choose not to get married to the father of their children. They are college educated, establishing themselves in their careers and have babies or young children. They graduated college and they are definitely the moms that would love the Mazda 3 – five door hatchback. Economical, spacious for small families and inclusive of MAZDA CONNECT™3, the next-generation infotainment system, so that the Millenial Single Mom is connected with their devices and specific entertainment and information options.
The Established Freedom Founding Single Mom – Mazda MX-5 Miata RF
If your kids are about to leave the nest or are already on their own this gives a degree of freedom to these single moms. They may fall into the latter part of Generation X or into the Baby Boomers stage. With their new found freedoms to pursue hobbies and bring it all back to the things they enjoy for themselves they need a ride that encompasses that freedom. Many of these women are also recently divorced and right on the cusp of ending decades long marriages. I believe the Mazda MZ-5 Miata RF – a new version with a hard top on the convertible provides a symbol for that freedom loving femme fatale embarking on a new adventure.
