Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending and participating in the Roundtable hosted by the Texas Tribune. We discussed “What’s Next for Texas Women?” We split into groups and took the fields of Women in Health, in the Workplace and in Politics and asked these questions and set out to gather some answers.
We asked questions like “What matters? What do we want? What are we willing to work for? What do we deserve? Where do we go from here?” Tough topics did not get shied away from — in fact, we talked.
We discussed gender roles, social status, race, socioeconomic disparities, regional access, health care, insurance, maternal leave, advancement, the results of the #MeToo movement, leadership political office, everyday activism, the state of Texas and America today. It wasn’t a pity party or bra burning session — neither of which I would have been able to handle, but what it was enlightening, productive, empowering and rather awesome.
We sat together.
Considered another opinion, experience and viewpoint.
It was delightful and refreshing.
But now I want to know, as a Texas Woman or someone that loves a Texas woman — What’s next? What do you want? What do you need?
