Dietitian Identifies the 2 Most Unhealthy Meats to Avoid

Everyone loves a quick breakfast or a late-night snack, and processed meat often fits the bill perfectly due to its convenience and strong flavor. However, despite how easy it is to prepare, this category of food carries significant health risks. Catherine Gervacio, a registered dietitian, warns that many of these products are high in fat and can trigger inflammation or even increase the risk of cancer.

I find it quite alarming that bacon is often considered a fat source rather than a protein because of its composition. Gervacio notes that the ratio of fat to actual meat means you are getting very little nutritional value from it. Additionally, bacon is typically loaded with sodium and nitrates, which are preservatives that can drive up blood pressure and cause stomach inflammation.

Hot dogs and sausages are another major offender, even though they are staples at barbecues and family gatherings. These products rely on a mixture of meat and fat to achieve their taste, which makes them incredibly calorie-dense. The dietitian explains that they also contain nitrites to maintain freshness, a chemical additive that has been linked to various forms of cancer.

While it might be difficult to resist these foods entirely, experts suggest saving them for special occasions rather than making them a daily habit. Regular consumption can lead to weight gain and increase the likelihood of developing chronic diseases over time.

Have you tried cutting these processed meats out of your diet, and if so, did you notice a difference in how you feel? Please share your thoughts and experiences in the comments.
