Every December, the same unspoken script shows up. Wake up early, make breakfast, host a revolving door of visitors, and pretend you are thrilled to play the one board game that only sees daylight once a year. It can be lovely, but it can also feel like performing the holidays instead of enjoying them.
Influencer Perrie Sian has decided she is done with the pressure. In a clip from her Can I Be Candid? podcast, which was shared on TikTok, she says she and her fiancé, Ricci Mandal, are planning what she calls a selfish Christmas. The idea is simple. Their home is not open for drop ins, and the day is built around what they actually want.
For Perrie, that starts with a slower morning. Instead of forcing an early start for the sake of tradition, she wants to sleep in and begin the day around late morning. She also has no interest in turning present opening into a dawn event that everyone has to sit through. Her version of festive is less about the schedule and more about the mood.
Then there is the part that made a lot of people laugh. Perrie insists there will be no games, because she is tired of feeling like a good Christmas depends on a round of something competitive. Ricci leans into the joke too, teasing that their perfect day might even involve minimal conversation. The playful tone is part of why the clip landed, because it sounds less like a rant and more like permission.

The comments showed she is far from alone. Plenty of viewers said they loved the idea of ditching the stress and keeping things calm. Others admitted they were jealous, especially if they were hosting while juggling a packed house, a new baby, or the expectation that everyone must be entertained.
The conversation also tied into a very different take on Christmas traditions, shared by etiquette expert William Hanson in a festive decorating chat with Joel Cooper. William is firmly against anything that looks overly artificial, from fake trees to pre lit versions, and he is not shy about his dislike of tinsel. He suggests using natural touches like holly, berries, mistletoe in a vase, and a classic star topper, even joking about how a fairy on the tree is not exactly refined, with a nod to Dame Joan Collins.
Whether you are team lazy morning or team perfectly styled tree, the point is the same. Christmas does not have to be a test you pass by following a checklist. It can be a day that actually fits the people living it.
