The At-Risk Dog Rescue Operation Frodo Returns December 13, 2025

What began with the rescue of a single dog named Frodo has grown into Operation Frodo, a yearly tradition where automotive journalists, manufacturers, suppliers, and volunteers have joined forces to transport abandoned and at-risk dogs from the Midwest to forever homes on the West Coast.

What is Operation Frodo?

Over the course of five days, a convoy of SUVs, pickups, and vans will travel from Omaha, Nebraska, to as far as California, carrying beagles, hounds, and other neglected dogs to families eagerly waiting to adopt them. The mission has already saved 64 dogs since its inception, and this year promises to deliver even more.

“Operation Frodo is a testament to what happens when passion meets purpose,” said Nik Miles, founder of Animal Rescue Rigs. “Automakers and their partners have provided the vehicles, resources, and heart that make this journey possible. Every mile driven is a mile closer to a new life for these dogs.”

What’s next?

Beyond December’s convoy, the long-term goal of Operation Frodo is to equip shelters and rescues with dedicated transport vehicles, ensuring that lifesaving trips don’t have to wait for the holiday season.
