Trying to find a way to teach my children how to ride a bike has always been a bigger effort for a single parent than it needed to be. I know nothing about bikes and I often wondered if I was putting it together correctly or if I knew how to properly teach my children to ride a bike. Along came our friends at Strider Bike who gave us a complimentary Strider Bike Sport to try out.
With a 4 and 3 year old this is a great starter bike to have. I found it very easy to put together with simple assembly that I was assured was sturdy. I had previously bought my older daughter a Disney princess bike which was not as sturdy on the middle base part. This Strider Sports Sport No-Pedal Balance Bike gave me peace of mind.
The bike is very lightweight and when we got it we did not have helmets yet so the photos show my daughter on the bike in our driveway. She loves this bike and our house is big enough that she has ridden it in the house.
Here’s the features of this bike:
- There are two seats with this bike. One mini-seat for those ages 18-36 months, and a padded seat with extra long seat post (36-60 months). In the photo shown we switched out to the padded seat.
- Metal Frame
- Variety of Colors
- Weighs just 7 pounds.
I like the fact that the bike can be used by kids who are just 18 months. The bad thing is that my older daughter outgrew it quick and learned how to ride a regular bike so quickly. That is a good and bad thing because I expected her to take a little bit longer. This bike definitely taught her control with the handlebars first. So the rest of balancing the bike came natural for her. Luckily I will also let my son use it and so it will get it’s use. It will likely get handed down to a niece of mine in the future as well. I taught the kids to use their momentum to propel themselves forward and learn balance. That has been the easiest way to teach them.
