As a single mother I love a good deal and I know that many of you do as well. One of my favorite and easiest ways to save money is through the use of gift cards. Whether you are using gift cards as gifts or a way to pre-purchase currency to restaurants and stores you frequent a lot, being able to use gift cards can help you save a lot of money. You can see gift cards at many grocery stores and convenience stores. I was given a variety of gift cards as a way to write about how I use gift cards to save money and to earn fuel points with grocery stores, like Safeway (Tom Thumb and Randall’s in Texas). Safeway has a fuel rewards program with an extra special perk gas perk for the summer. If you are planning a summer road trip you may want to read about how buying gift cards at Safeway stores can help you save money on gas.
Safeway’s 4x Fuel Rewards Program has a special event running now through Labor Day on all closed loop gift cards purchased in their stores. Safeway stores in your area already offer 10 cents off every gallon of gas for every $100 you spend on groceries. But now through Labor Day 2013, you can receive 40 cents off per gallon with every $100 you spend in gift cards! At Safeway, you can get up to $1.00 off every gallon of gas.
Gift cards are very popular gifts and they remain on gift lists for birthdays and holidays. During these summer months, give them as graduation gifts and wedding gifts. Are you sending a child off to college or to camp? Send them off with a gift card for restaurants and stores. Also, are you thinking about Christmas in July shopping? Just get a gift card now and stock up. Also get ready for back to school and buy gift cards from participating retailers so that you can purchase back to school clothes and gear. Combine this with tax free weekend dates if your state partcipates in that and make the shopping and savings easy.
I received gift cards in order to write this review. I received gift cards for the iTunes store, Applebee’s, Cheesecake Factory, Lowes, the Gap, Kohl’s and more. When you think of the variety of gift cards you can buy during this time period that can add up to a lot of savings on gas.
Here are some tips on how best to maximize your savings:
1) Make a budget – check out what you currently spend money on for the last three months. Are their purchases that you make at the same restaurant or store that Safeway may have a gift card for? If so, prepurchase, set a budget and use the gift card to make those purchases for the rest of the month.
2) Are you dining out or have to prepare food for dinner, a potluck or social gathering? Buy a Gift Card and have the restaurant do it for you.
3) Do you have a bunch of parties or events happening in the same month or at the last minute? Be prepared to give a gift with a gift card you already purchased.
4) Summer Events that you can send a gift card as a gift: birthdays, anniversaries, baby showers, wedding showers, weddings, graduations, back to school and retirement.
