Golden Retrievers Meet Snow for the First Time and It’s Impossible to Watch Only Once

A short video of two golden retrievers experiencing snow for the very first time has been making the rounds online, and it’s easy to see why. Winston and Benny, both a year old, had only ever known Florida’s sunshine and sticky heat before their owners moved to New Jersey. Suddenly, the world outside turned white, quiet, and full of surprises. The moment their paws hit the snow, their whole energy shifted into pure, goofy joy.

Their 24-year-old owner, Ellie Schraft, captured the first encounter on camera and later described the scene as instant happiness. She explained that Florida summers were tough, with daily temperatures climbing to around 38°C, making long walks feel nearly impossible. In cooler weather, she said the dogs seemed like completely different animals, eager to be outside and finally comfortable. Seeing them tumble and wriggle in the snow, she admitted, was the kind of simple delight that’s hard to beat.

Schraft posted the clip on TikTok through her account, @winstonandbenny, and it didn’t take long for it to go viral. The video quickly gathered more than 276,000 views and nearly 29,000 likes, paired with a short caption that summed up the moment perfectly, saying she had been waiting for this day. That morning, Winston and Benny spent almost an hour outdoors, racing across the yard, rolling around like they’d discovered the best new game, and digging up little branches hidden beneath the snowy layer. Every time they went back inside, they immediately wanted to rush out again.

As the comments poured in, Schraft noticed that the reaction went beyond quick laughs. She said she usually tries to create clever, trendy content, but this time people were simply grateful for something wholesome. Messages from viewers told her the video made their day better, which reminded her that sharing everyday moments can be about spreading a bit of happiness. She also pointed out a detail many dog owners will recognize, Winston appeared more obsessed with the snow than Benny, happy to stay outside for ages running, digging, and playing.

Have you ever watched a pet discover snow, sand, or rain for the first time, and did they love it or hate it? Tell me your best first-time weather story in the comments.
