Dinner is my absolute favorite time of the day. No matter how crazy our days have been, sitting down for a meal as a family is something that is very important to me. It’s my time to catch up with my three kids, talk to them about their days, and just enjoy each other’s company.
While I do look forward to this part of my day, actually figuring out what to make for dinner can be a struggle. Weekday dinners have to be quick, not overly complicated, and most importantly–kid-approved. These three things may sound easy, but finding a recipe that ticks all three on the list harder than it sounds!
I’m always on the lookout for any little trick or tip that makes mealtime easier, so when I got the opportunity to try HelloFresh, I wondered if it could be the solution I’ve been looking for.
For those that don’t know, HelloFresh is a fabulous service that sends you all of the pre-measured ingredients you need to make dinner at home. Included in the box are also step-by-step recipe cards that show you exactly how to make each recipe.
What I instantly loved about HelloFresh is that most of the recipes can be completed in 30 minutes or under! Also, since they send you exact amounts of each ingredient, there’s very little prep and chopping involved which was music to my ears!
All recipes are curated by chefs, and they surprised me with how many international cuisines are on offer. Italian, Asian, Mexican and so many more–there are up to 22 recipes a week to choose from.
HelloFresh does a great job of accommodating both families and singles. Their plans are super flexible (allowing you to skip weeks here and there at no cost, or pausing your subscription whenever needed), and you can choose between 2-4 recipes a week with either 2 or 4 servings for each recipe. The 4 serving plan is perfect for my family, but even if you’re single, the 2 serving plan would be perfect for giving you leftovers for lunch or late night Netflix snacks — the next day! I also have to give them brownie points for having family-friendly, vegetarian, and low-calorie options–they covered all the bases — making me a very happy mom!
Choosing 3 recipes was hard! They all looked so delicious, but I finally settled on Cheesy Smothered Mushroom Chicken, Hot Honey Chicken, and Pan-Seared Scallops with Lemon Butter Sauce for my first box. My kids love chicken and I could eat seafood all day, so I was excited to put these recipes to the test.
When our HelloFresh box was delivered, all of the recipes were separated out into their own paper bags so you don’t confuse the ingredients (love that!). Having all of the ingredients pre-measured out, as well as the recipe cards with photos, made executing these recipes virtually fool-proof.
I have to admit, I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients. All of the produce, meat, and fish was incredibly fresh, which made me even more excited to get cookin’! I made the Cheesy Smothered Mushroom Chicken first, and even my kids were excited to help out!

We had dinner on the table in just about 30 minutes, and it was absolutely delicious! My kids cleaned their plates- what more can you ask for?
HelloFresh is really affordable too. Not including my new customer discount, it starts at just $7.49 per serving, which is a lot cheaper than takeout and actually pretty comparable with the grocery store. Plus, I love that there is no food waste (one of my pet peeves) and that most of HelloFresh’s packaging can either be reused or recycled.
All of the recipes we tried from HelloFresh exceeded my expectations, and my kids love them too. HelloFresh takes the hassle out of dinnertime and lets me get back to what I love most about that part of my day–spending time with my kids and eating great food!
