The follow up to Kristi’s New York Time best seller, “Dream Big, Little Pig” her new book, “It’s a Big World, Little Pig!” tells the story of the figure skating porcine heroine, Poppy the Pig, as she makes her way to the World Games Ice Skating Championship in Paris. While there Poppy is nervous but makes many friends and learns different ways of saying hello in different languages from other animal friends. She meets a snowboarding Panda, a Maltese who skies, and two fellow skaters, a Crane and a Kangaroo. While the first book was about Poppy using persistence and hard work to make her dream of skating come true, this book is about what it’s like to travel to new places and to try new things. The main theme in this book is even though people may look different or speak another language, “We all Smile in the Same Language!”
What my children thought of this book
I have a four year old and about 2 year old daughter and they both love it when we read this book together. The illustrations from Tim Bowers does an amazing job on the illustrations with lots of character emotion and color. The language and grammar were easy for my four year old to follow along and read some of it at her Kindergarten level. Both books are my daughters’ favorites and ice skating is something that my four year old is interested. This book definitely builds excitement for the winter games.
What Parents will like about this boo
I think the message is very valuable about overcoming your fears and understanding that while people may have differences, you can make friends no matter the language. I think this book is great to help your preschooler and elementary school child with learning to read.
