“These actually taste very good!” the 13 year old daughter of my man, NYScorpio explained. We had a blending of the family movie night with my daughter and I including his family and so it was the perfect time to have a Skinny Cow Creamy Ice Coffee tasting party. When I received the big box of goodies for the tasting party I was immediately taken aback by the numerous drinks in the three delicious flavors of Mocha Latte, Vanilla Latte and Creamy Cappuccino. I’m very familiar with Skinny Cow ice creams so it was great to see them come out with an iced beverage line. How good could they possibly be?
How addicted am I to coffee?
I drink coffee way too much. Hot or iced I can’t start my day without it and sometimes it’s the only thing I have for breakfast. (Slap my hand). Breakfast is important but being someone who is always on the go I’d like a convenient and tasty coffee beverage that I can take with me, have at the office or drink in the car. I like my iced coffee to taste like coffee but to be more sweet like a dessert. My hot coffee is a different experience it needs to be strong and less sweet. This is just my personal preference.
Packaging and Design
I really enjoyed the colors of the Skinny Cow bottles. The Vanilla Latte flavor is blue, Mocha is purple and Creamy Cappuccino is Brown. I’ve already memorized that without even having to check again. That makes it easy to pick the one you want right out of the fridge. Labeling was very easy to read for the nutrition facts.
Nutrition Information
Each drink is about 8 ounces and 120 calories. For complete nutrition information, please visit Skinny Cow’s site. This isn’t a diet drink but what it successfully does is give you an alternative to other high calorie drinks. For instance a Starbucks Frappuccino Mocha has about 180 calories and 31 grams of sugar. The Skinny Cow drinks have 120 calories, 2.5 grams of fat and 18 grams of sugar. I thought it was interesting to see monk fruit extract as blend with the sugar to keep the calories and grams of sugar low in line with Starbuck’s lite option. Why do we care about monk fruit extract? I don’t notice the aftertaste as with other types of alternative sweeteners. If you are “dieting” to the extreme or cutting out sugar, then you may want to limit your intake. This is not a meal replacement. I don’t diet but I would like some help cutting calories without sacrificing my sweet tooth. If we are counting calories then it also means ensuring that you stay within your calorie limits which makes label reading important. I’m mindful of the labels I read but I’m not an authoritarian on it. This drink gives you “permission for personal indulgence.”
Flavorful and filling
I hate that cliche’ from the 80’s – Tastes Great, Less Filling. In any case I felt that Skinny Cow tasted great and it was filling. Mind you I’m not recommending it as a meal replacement but with about 5 grams of protein I can see why it’s filling. The taste was not too sweet and light on the coffee flavor taste but as my man’s daughter said, “surprisingly good!” My favorite is the mocha latte because it tastes the most like my two favorite things: coffee and chocolate. It still tastes like a coffee drink, not a milk drink and I didn’t know that this drink is whipped three times. This ensures that it stays thick.
Skinny Cow Tasting Party
So the two favorite flavors from everyone at our little party seemed to be the Mocha Latte and the Creamy Cappuccino. Even the boyfriend liked it but he doesn’t like sweet or sugar in his coffee at all. So our box of goodies included two folding cooler bags, some mini pink bags, Skinny Cow iced coffees, cups, notepads and coupons.
I have a limited number of coupons to give out for your own 4 pack of this coffee drink that I’m giving away first come first served. So if you want one, comment on this post below and I will contact you via the email you provide for a mailing address.
I even used some of the mocha latte to create a light chocolate mocha latte panna cotta. It was an amazing and refreshing dessert that my daughter absolutely loved. It was also very easy to make and still had the delicious flavor of the Skinny Cow Creamy Iced Coffee drinks.
Skinny Cow Mocha Latte Panna Cotta
Ingredients
1 Bottle of Skinny Cow Mocha Latte
2 teaspoons unflavored powdered gelatin
1 Cup 2% Low Fat Milk
6 ounces of bittersweet chocolate, chopped and melted
Optional:
1 small chocolate bar or coconut flakes for garnish
Directions
Place 1/4 cup of the milk in a heavy, small saucepan and sprinkle the gelatin over and let stand for 5 minutes to soften the gelatin. Stir over medium heat just until the gelatin dissolves, but the milk does not boil, about 2 minutes.
Add the remaining milk, Skinny Cow Mocha Latte, and chocolate. Stir over low heat for 3 more minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly. Pour the cream mixture into glasses, dividing equally. Cover and refrigerate, stirring every 20 minutes during the first hour so the chocolates doesn’t settle to the bottom. Chill until set, at least 6 hours and up to 2 days.
When ready to serve, use a vegetable peeler on the chocolate blocks to create about 1 tablespoon each of the chocolate shavings. Sprinkle the shavings over each panna cotta and serve. Now trying to create a light version of panna cotta is tricky. It may not be sweet enough. At any rate you will have to add sugar or sweetener if it’s not sweet enough.
