Google’s Year in Search report recently spotlighted what people around the world were most curious about, and the food list had a clear winner. According to Google Trends, the most searched recipe of 2025 was hot honey, a sweet and spicy drizzle that has quietly become a kitchen staple. It is less a stand-alone dish and more a finishing touch that upgrades everything it lands on. The best part is how little you need to make it.
Hot honey is essentially honey infused with chili so it delivers warmth first, then a slow building heat that never fully overpowers the sweetness. That balance is exactly why it slips so easily into everyday meals. People spoon it over pizza for a glossy, spicy finish, tuck it into sandwiches for a punchy contrast, or use it to round out stir-fries with a sweet-hot edge. It also works as a quick dip booster when mixed into mayo or brushed onto roasted vegetables right before serving.
The ingredient list is short and flexible, which helps explain its popularity. You start with honey and chili flakes, then add a small splash of apple cider vinegar or wine vinegar to brighten the flavor. If you like, you can add garlic for a savory note, or a little smoked paprika for extra depth. Even with the optional extras, it still feels like a pantry recipe rather than a shopping trip.
Making it is straightforward, but the key is keeping the heat gentle. Warm the honey in a small saucepan over low heat and do not let it boil. Stir in chili flakes, and add garlic or smoked paprika if you are using them, then keep it warming for about five to ten minutes, stirring occasionally. Take it off the heat, mix in the vinegar, and let it sit for another ten to fifteen minutes so the flavors settle.
From there, you can decide how intense you want it. Strain out the chili if you prefer a smooth drizzle, or leave it in for extra heat and a more rustic look. Pour it into a clean jar, seal it well, and keep it at room temperature. Stored properly, it can last for up to three months, ready whenever you want to turn something ordinary into a conversation starter.
