Following the success of the redesigned 2022 Frontier, Nissan Design America debuted three new concepts inspired by the desires, wishes and uses of their reimagined mid-size pickup truck. Based on the three different trims of the new Frontier, the S, SV and PRO-4X, the team set to work to create concepts directly tailored to three different mid-size truck audiences.

“People want to get out of the house, have adventures and do it in style, so timing of the adventure-ready 2022 Frontier couldn’t have been better,”
Michael Colleran, senior vice
president, Nissan U.S. and Marketing and Sales.
These three concepts include the Project 72X, Project Hardbody and the Project Adventure. Each concept brings to life the spirit of adventure, fun and excitement that is currently infusing projects coming from Nissan Design America.
Project 72X

Inspired by the heritage of the classic “Little Hustler” Datsun 720, a simple, rugged favorite for outdoor enthusiasts, this reimagining is based on the 2022 Frontier Crew Cab S 4×4. The team added white-painted steel wheels, a 2.5-inch lift kit, a sport bar behind the cab and used a fresh color palette of greys laced with bold graphics for a modern new look.
Project Hardbody

Based upon the Nissan D21 Hardbody, Project Hardbody shows the love to the iconic design. As the first design to come from the team at Nissan Design America, the name is derived from its award-winning performance, double-walled bed and sturdy, muscular stance. This reinterpretation is built on the 2022 Frontier Crew Cab SV 4×4. The team at NDA sat souped up the mix with a 3-inch lift kit then by blacking out the front-end, adding shadow outlining, 33-inch tires, a sport bar with bold LED lighting. They also took the over fenders from the current PRO-4x model to complete the look.
Project Adventure

A natural side effect of the current overlanding trend, Project Adventure is Nissan Design America’s spin on a 2022 Frontier Crew Cab PRO-4X. This retooling makes good use of a 5-inch lift kit, 34-inch mud terrain tires, Yakima® bed rack system and Yakima® LoadWarrior roof basket, sky tent so that you can be wherever the breeze takes you comfortably and a Bluetooth® bed audio system by KICKER®. Nissan Design America also hand-crafted a carbon fiber snorkel. Completing the look is a custom body wrap of a United States map issuing a bold challenge, “This is a big country, why don’t you take your Frontier somewhere?”
