Tips for Keeping Your Floors Clean

Home· Living· Living

All parents, especially those with young children, know how difficult keeping the floors clean can be. In addition to the dust bunnies that accumulate on the floors all on their own, floors become dirty when the kids track in mud, dirt, and bits of grass every time they come in from the outdoors. Learn to fight the mess with these tips for keeping your floors clean.

Tips for Keeping Your Floors Clean

Hardwood

Hardwood is a durable, elegant type of flooring that comes in a variety of shades. Before cleaning your hardwood floor, determine whether it’s sealed or waxed. If your wood floor isn’t sealed, never clean it with water, because this can seriously damage the wood. Stick to vacuuming, sweeping, and dust-mopping this type of floor. If your wood floor is sealed, it’s safe to clean it with soap, water, and other hardwood floor cleaners.

Tile

Tile floors are often found in bathrooms and kitchens. Tile can be made from different materials, including porcelain, marble, and ceramic. More extensive cleaning methods may be necessary depending on which kind of tile your floors are made of, but regular mopping and the use of gentle soap and floor cleaning solutions is enough to keep these types of floors fresh and shining.

Carpet

Most homes have at least one carpeted room or, if not, rugs that have been added within a room. To keep your carpets clean, vacuum them regularly and spot-clean them with a carpet-safe cleaning solution if they become particularly dirty. Because dirt and dust can build up in a carpet’s fibers even when you regularly clean them, it’s also wise to have your carpet professionally cleaned at least once a year.

There’s no better feeling than being able to step on the floor in your bare feet without encountering dust, wetness, or goo. With these tips for keeping your floors clean, you’ll be able to combat the dirt and grime that comes from both within and outside of your house.
