Dating sites have become exceptionally common today, but you’ll need to find the best one to suit you if you’re to find your true match. Here’s a list of the top dating websites of 2014:
OK Cupid
OK Cupid has been the leading free dating website for many years. It’s mostly geared towards those under the age of 30 and creates a simple matching system that’s intended to match users based on many metrics. The matching system is based on hundreds if not thousands of user-generated and site-created questions in the form of a quiz that users can take. Users can answer anywhere from five questions to 500 questions in their pursuit of love. The more questions the users answer, the more likely they are to find a match.
Users on OK Cupid can look for romantic partners, casual partners and just activity buddies. An internal messaging system allows them to talk to their partners in-depth before they meet them. OK Cupid is likely the best bet for those that want a free solution, but the low barrier to entry means there are a lot of individuals on the site that aren’t looking for anything serious.
Match.com
Match.com is a unique type of dating site and likely the dating site most people think of when they think of online dating. Match.com is different from the other dating sites and remains popular for this reason. Match.com operates as a true matchmaker: you enter in information about yourself for a fee and then you let Match.com find you your matches. The conversational element of Match.com is extremely structured.
You’re allowed to ask questions of your matches but not allowed to sustain a conversation. This is intentional, as many dating websites have found that people have more problems, not less, if they decide to talk for longer periods of time before actually meeting their matches. Match.com is one of the most expensive matchmaking websites but it’s still one of the most popular of 2014. Unfortunately, it has a very narrow target market and isn’t open for those with disabilities or non-traditional needs.
eHarmony
eHarmony is almost a blend between both Match.com and OK Cupid. Another paid site, eHarmony offers users the ability to find those that they want to date based on different metrics. The core difference is that Match.com is geared towards those that are looking for a long-term relationship that will lead to marriage, while eHarmony is open to those that are looking to date and not necessarily looking to get married at any point soon. eHarmony remains popular for those that fall within this category. The users on eHarmony tend to be less inconsistent than those on OK Cupid because they have to pay for their subscription but not as motivated to marry as those on Match.com.
Special Bridge
Special Bridge is a unique special needs dating site intended for those that have special requirements for love. Highly community oriented, Special Bridgeis the only dating site for people with mental illness or disabilities. As a special needs dating website, Special Bridge has a multitude of fascinating features that separate it from other websites.
Special Bridge is the leading special needs dating service and the only leading autism dating and down syndrome dating site. These individuals have special needs not only to use the websites but also to find their perfect match. Individuals with mental disorders, mental disabilities or simply a different way of looking at things need a different type of dating site.
Not just a matchmaking service, Special Bridge can also help those with disorders find friends and activity companions. Those with mental disabilities and caretakers of those with special needs are aware that it can often be very difficult to find them the companionship and friendhsip they need. Special Bridge automates this task and makes it simpler, safer and more fun.
Plenty of Fish
Plenty of Fish is likely the largest dating website in the world. While other dating websites may have a foothold on certain markets, Plenty of Fish has a broad appeal worldwide. There’s virtually no matching in Plenty of Fish. Instead, it simply gives you a list of everyone that’s interested in dating in your geographical location and lets you select the people you think match you. An extraordinarily simple website, it’s also more shallow than the others. The website is completely free, but the only things you’ll really be able to find out about your matches are whether they smoke, whether they drink, if they have a car and any other items they decide to tell you about yourself.
Plenty of Fish is a good choice for those that want more freedom and want to be able to match up with people quickly. However, it has extremely low quality control and there are many inactive accounts. Most of the users on Plenty of Fish don’t take it seriously, and it’s largely a venue for more casual relationships than serious ones. It is, however, one of the most popular dating sites of 2014.
Tinder (Dallas Single Mom updated this)
Dating would not be the modern dating of today without Tinder. Also known in a lot of circles as the Hookup Site, I can say that this is a bad rap. I met my significant other on the popular dating app and I don’t see any other dating site that beats this one based upon the number of users that currently use the app. What it has going for it are ease of use. With a simple swipe you can say Yes or No to a possible love connection. Tinder is quite frankly everyone’s sinful addiction if they are in the online dating world. Nobody likes to admit they use the app but it wouldn’t be so popular if people weren’t using it.

You’ve done a great job describing the differences between these
sites. There is also another great site
called MateCheck.ca that offers clients the ability to verify their identity so
that people who show interest in their profile, know they are actually who they
say they are. We welcome you to check it out and let us know what you think.

Wow, I never realized there were so many sites online to find dating partners or even friends.
I think we need to take a public poll of how well these sites work and who found love on them
I’m married but am amazed by how many friends and family have gotten married through an online dating site. Thank you for explaining the differences between the sites. Interesting.
