Ways to Stay Safe While Driving

Drive #DSMDrive· Drive News· Lifestyle· Single Mom Life

Most of us drive on a regular basis, and yet it can be very dangerous. If you want to stay safe on the roads, you’ll need to think carefully about your actions. To keep yourself and others safe, keep these pointers in mind.

1.  Choose the right vehicle

If you want to stay safe on the road, it’s important that you choose the right vehicle. Modern vehicles come equipped with plenty of different safety features. When you’re shopping around for cars, look out for adaptive cruise control, automatic energy breaking, blind spot detection, and driver fatigue alert.

Choosing a vehicle with plenty of safety features can reduce your chances of being in a collision. If you are looking for support after an accident, you’ll need to search for car accident lawyers near me.

2. Try using safety apps

Your vehicle might not have the latest safety features, but that’s okay. There are plenty of car apps you can use, to make your vehicle safer. Here are a few ideas, to get you started:

  • Drivemode:

This app helps drivers to manage their calls and messages, to avoid distracted driving. Using the Drivemode tool, you can mute messages and calls, or respond with the help of voice commands.

  • Drowsy Driving Alert App:

The DD app works to detect drowsiness, and send alerts to the driver. The app works using an AI that can interpret the difference between sleep, drowsiness and blinking.

For a few other handy driving apps take a look at Life Saver, Fobo Tire, or Waze. Using the right tech tools, you’ll feel far more safe and comfortable.

3. Take a defensive driving course

To improve your overall driving habits, it can be useful to take a defensive driving course. These courses help you to become a safer driver, and react to the actions of other drivers. There are so many different benefits of taking a defensive driving course, such as:

  • It’s a great way to become a safer driver.
  • Reduce your chances of being in an accident.
  • You can get a good discount on your car insurance.
  • Improving your driving habits helps you to save money on car expenses, (for example fuel costs).

4. Avoid driving, if you’re tired

To stay safe on the roads, it’s important to avoid driving if you’re tired. Driving while fatigued can easily cause accidents, you might be putting yourself or another driver at risk. If you’re feeling sleepy, it’s important to take breaks, get a coffee, or ideally avoid driving altogether.

If you drive for work, it’s especially important to take driving breaks. Simple actions like this can really help to keep you safe. When you reflect on your driving habits, you’ll become a better and more mindful driver.

5. Consider the weather

Driving in snow, or on icy roads, can be incredibly dangerous. If you can help it, it’s best not to drive in icy conditions. If you have no choice but to drive, remember to follow these key tips:

  • Ensure that you go gently, it’s important to avoid any harsh acceleration.
  • When driving uphill, make sure that you stick to a constant speed, and do not try to change gears.
  • Remember to use your headlights in heavy snow.
  • Higher gears can help you to improve your grip on the ice.

6. Drive predictably

It’s important that you drive predictably, the drivers around you should be able to anticipate your next move. If you drive unpredictably, you’re far more likely to end up in an accident. Here are a few general tips, to help you become a more predictable driver.

  • Make sure that you avoid fast changes.
  • Always make turns from the correct lane.
  • Keep a steady speed at all times.
  • Always remember to check your blind spot.

7. Maintain a good distance

Make sure that you always leave enough room between you and the car in front. Generally, it’s best to stick to the ‘two second rule’. When you leave enough space between you and the vehicle in front, you’ll make sure of that.

  • You have a better view of the road.
  • You can react in time if the cars in front of you brake.
  • Helpful to improve your fuel economy.

Following these seven steps will ensure that you stay safe while you’re on the roads. Whether it’s car safety apps or choosing the right vehicle there’s plenty to think about. Most of us take driving for granted, not thinking about how dangerous it can be. Focusing on these ideas will help you to become a more mindful driver.
