Winter is here and while everything looks like a genuine winter wonderland in Christmas movies, we know that reality is way more different. Of course, there are great parts of the season, like when snow covers all the imperfections and everything seems magical, but there are other parts. Nasty ones. Apart from shoes getting dirty the minute you walk outside (because the new layer of snow starts to melt the very next day), we have to deal with hat hair, dry skin, chapped lips, bangs that get completely messy due to the wind, and other typical wintery things. If you wish to look more like the ladies from the mentioned movies and less like a walking mess, here are a couple of things you should include in your beauty routine.
Exfoliate and moisturize
Due to the cold weather, our skin tends to become dry, flaky, and very rough. This is why it is important to up your skincare during the winter months. Even if you moisturize your skin (well, at least your hands and face) regularly, you should also exfoliate it on a weekly basis, especially with exfoliants rich in glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids. This way you will get rid of dead skin cells and renew and strengthen your skin. If you are interested in organic products you can buy herbal dynamics skincare products that are not only sulfate, phthalate, synthetic fragrance and paraben free, but are also not tested on animals.
Put skin redness under control
In stories healthy and beautiful princesses always have rosy cheeks, but in reality redness of the cheeks, nose, chin or forehead might be a sign of a chronic skin condition called rosacea. Not so romantic, right? Many people become aware that they have this condition only in winter when their skin becomes very irritated. To deal with this type of redness, make sure you use skincare products with glycolic, lactic, and salicylic acids which will reduce inflammation.
Avoid split cuticles
You probably already know that during the winter months your hands become drier than usual so it is important that you wear gloves to protect them from the cold weather. Also, you need to invest in a quality hand lotion that will moisturize your skin. Since we are talking about hands, we need to mention cuticles as they suffer due to cold weather as well. They become less elastic because of the cold, air conditioning, and central heating, so they tend to split which can be very painful. To avoid this, make sure you use a nail and cuticle serum throughout the day.

Protect your lips
Cold weather and sun exposure are the two main causes of chapped lips. When they get dry they tend to crack and peel, which can be uncomfortable and sometimes even painful. By exfoliating your lips on a daily basis and using a lip balm with lanolin, vitamin A and vitamin E you will avoid these problems. If possible, get a lip product that also has an SPF since the sun always shines, summer or winter.
Embrace the mess
No matter how much time you spend straightening your hair, the moment you get out of your house it becomes frizzy. Does this sound familiar? Although you can use quality hair masks and conditioners that will prevent breakage and nurture your fragile hair, there are still chances your hair will look messy and windswept. Therefore, it is better just to go with the flow and embrace the grungy rock look. If your hair is naturally curly, do not try to straighten it during the winter months, you will just make things worse. The best hairdo for damp and cold weather is a messy updo, since the wind won’t ruin it, it will only make it chicer.
Use these tips to look your best during the winter months despite the cold weather, dry air and windy conditions.
